A Little About Claudia
I retired about eight years ago and decided to pursue Art as a hobby at first. I’m married to an avid fisherman and we have two grown children, three grandchildren, and three fur babies.
My interests are spending time with family, art, traveling, and some camping trips we’ve thrown in for good measure.
I had tried to teach myself to paint from instruction books and videos before I retired, with some limited success but I wasn’t passionate about the process. I studied for a time with a local artist and tried my hand at charcoal, graphite, and acrylic and I still work on a limited basis in those mediums.
I had always admired the pastel works I saw in art magazines and in galleries and shows. So I bought some pastels and asked a friend who is a very accomplished pastelist to mentor me and I promptly fell in love with pastels. I love the immediacy of pastels. With planning up front the painting progresses so fast it is amazing.
I’ve taken workshops with several Arkansas based artists in various subjects over the past two years. I also attended Christine Ivers workshop on city scenes at night. I feel that workshops and the help I’ve received from my mentor and others have really improved my work considering that pastel has been my sole medium for only two years. I am also attending a workshop soon by Richard McKinley and looking forward to that.
I’ve had entries accepted to the Pine Bluff Art League and the juried show at the Arkansas Pastel Society. I had two paintings in a showing the Arkansas Pastel Society had at Garvan Gardens in 2017.I am working to prepare a portfolio of work in several subjects at this time. I love painting because I feel it is important to pursue it as far as I can and with pastel, I’ll never be finished with everything I want to paint
